What your support helps fund
Support for Beyond Horizons directly contributes to the work behind the project, including:
educational video production
filming days on and around the water
editing and post-production
family-friendly learning materials and STEAM activities
curriculum-connected field guides and observation prompts
creative collaborations with artists, educators, scientists, and mission-aligned partners
equipment, project infrastructure, safety preparation, and field readiness
public access to free or low-cost ocean literacy resources
This is support for building a working ocean education platform, one story, one lesson, and one field observation at a time.
Support Beyond Horizons
Help launch a sailing-based ocean literacy project for kids, families, educators, and ocean-curious communities.
Beyond Horizons is preparing its first pilot season along the Southern California coast and Channel Islands. Your support helps create field-based ocean education through short educational videos, STEAM learning materials, visual field notes, and public storytelling about the living systems that shape our coast and sea.
This first season is designed to be focused, practical, and measurable: start small, document well, teach clearly, and build a model that can grow.
Why this matters
Most kids are taught about the natural world from a distance.
Beyond Horizons exists to offer something different: ocean education that is intelligent, adventurous, and rooted in the living world. The goal is not to simplify nature beyond recognition, but to open it up — to help kids and families ask better questions, pay closer attention, and build a deeper relationship with the sea and the systems that shape life around it.
Ocean literacy is also climate literacy. When learners understand kelp forests, currents, harbors, wildlife, weather, navigation, and marine protection, they begin to see the ocean as part of their own future.
Support helps turn that vision into a working pilot.
The first-year pilot
The Channel Islands Pilot Season
Beyond Horizons begins with a focused first season along the Southern California coast and Channel Islands.
The pilot will explore ocean literacy through real field observation, including:
kelp forest ecosystems
seabirds and marine mammals
island geology and weather
navigation and seamanship
marine protected areas
harbors, access, and coastal communities
climate resilience and conservation
The first season will produce:
6–8 short educational field videos
3–4 field essays or visual stories
4–6 STEAM-connected learning resources
a public Field Notes series
a small advisor circle of educators, scientists, and maritime professionals
a first-year impact summary
a refined model for future seasons and partnerships

Building What Comes Next
Part of building Beyond Horizons means more than making videos. It also means preparing the tools, structure, and a vessel platform that will allow this work to grow into something larger: field-based learning, ocean storytelling, and educational experiences rooted in real places and real questions.
This project is being built patiently and intentionally.
One video.
One experiment.
One question at a time.
Sponsor or Underwrite
Beyond Horizons is seeking aligned supporters who want to help underwrite specific parts of the Channel Islands pilot season, including field production, learning materials, safety readiness, curriculum development, post-production, and public outreach.
Support may help fund:
a field episode
a classroom resource
a learning guide
a safety or communications upgrade
a community presentation
an educator review process
a first-year impact report
